Doula service is provided in the Salt Lake County and surrounding areas by Jennifer McDonald CD (DONA), CPCE and includes the following:
At least two prenatal visits
The first visit is considered a “getting to know you” visit. There is no charge for this visit. Jennifer will have questions to ask you and you in return are free to interview Jennifer if you desire. At this first visit you should be able to discover if Jennifer is the right doula for you.
At subsequent visits you will get to know each other even better. Jennifer will be available for your questions and you may sample some comfort techniques if you like. The purpose of all visits is to enable your doula to get to know you better, and to learn about your unique desires for birth. This will provide for better individualized care. You may also find that you are more comfortable at your birth after first getting to know your doula.
Telephone contact
Jennifer is available by telephone 24 hours a day, every day of the year, both prenatally and during the postpartum period for her clients. If you have any questions or concerns during that time period you are encouraged to call as you wish.
Continuous support at your birth
Jennifer will stay with you from the moment you desire her to accompany you during your labor, until you are comfortably settled in after the birth of your baby. Along with emotional and informational support she will be available to guide the birth partner or provide by herself a variety of individualized comfort techniques including but not limited to, relaxation techniques, massage, aromatherapy, breathing techniques, hydrotherapy, visualization, cold and heat therapy, counter pressure, and beneficial labor positioning. When family members want to be highly involved in the birth process your doula will also benefit you by providing an extra pair of hands.
Help with breastfeeding
For those who wish to breastfeed, along with your health care providers Jennifer will be available after the birth to help you get breastfeeding started. Then at anytime, she will be available for any breastfeeding questions that you may have.
One Postpartum Visit
Within the first few weeks after your birthing experience Jennifer will want to visit with you in your home to see how you are doing. This is a great time to review your birth and ask any questions that you might have.
Cost
The Utah Birth Support doula service charge is $400. $175 is due as a retaining fee upon choosing Jennifer as your doula. The remaining amount is due after the birth of your baby. An additional fee of $35 may be charged for births occurring outside of Salt Lake County.
Utah Birth Support understands that financial circumstances can sometimes cause difficulty in meeting the doula service fees. It is our firm belief that every woman is entitled to the services of a professional doula regardless of her financial situation. Payment plans and other arrangements can be made to accommodate every client.
